Headsets

Why should I use a telephone headset?
In short, for your own safety and comfort. Headsets have the power to improve your comfort and safety, productivity and moral.

Comfort and safety – there’s no more need to put up with neck strain. ACC see an excessive number of neck strain cases each year due to the inappropriate use of telephones in workplaces. Some workplaces have been labelled as dangerous. If you are often on the telephone and using the computer at the same time (that accounts for many of us) then headsets go a long way to reducing work place injuries. Try one you might have thought it was the amount of work you were doing, more often than not it is how you are doing it.

Productivity – Using headsets both corded and wireless, means that you have your hands free when you are talking on the telephone. Headsets can increase office productivity up to as much as 43% (H.B Maynard and Co. Commissioned study). In this study by HB Maynard and Co. A variety of over 2000 workers were studied, using headsets they made on average up to 16 more calls per day, accuracy and productivity rates increased; yet they also reported lower fatigue and phone-related physical strain.

Moral – given better comfort, safety and your boss being happy with productivity increases – it would stand to reason that using headsets can increase workplace moral. “A trades person is only as good as the tools they use, try headsets today – 0508 222 553

I don’t like doing technical things – can you give me something to simply plug in?
The majority of headsets are simple to use – plug and play, corded ones especially. However, from time to time, you might need a little help. It is free to call us and ask questions and we will do our best to help. Call us on 0508 222 553. Wherever possible we will help you set it up in the first instance. If you are a large customer purchasing a number of them we ask you to choose one or a couple of staff members to be the “Technology Champions”. We will train the trainer and they will be able to help all of your other users.

My office is really noisy can you help?
If your work environment is busy and your customers can hear voices or noise such as packing tape being used, then you should definitely use a noise cancelling headset. Noise cancelling headsets are built to focus on useful sounds – yourself and your customer and to minimise the background noise in your work area. A recent observation from CRM Consulting, who set the bench-mark levels for New Zealand call centres and customer services, is that not enough businesses use noise cancelling headsets.

How do I work out what headset will work with my telephone, computer or PABX system?
Most headsets can work well with most telephones, however we will need to know the type of phone or system you are using, to work out what is best for you. The easiest thing to do is call us on 0508 222 553. However, if you want to work it out yourself, this is what you will need to find out.

•  Does my computer, telephone or switch board have a headset port?
•  If so, what type of connection is it?
•  What cord will I need, to connect the headset to that port?

Most telephones nowadays should have a headset port on the telephone, this will be an RJ9 (standard telephone jack connection) or a 2.5mm or 3.5mm pin port. Armed with this information you will be able to work out which headset and cord you will require. Computer use with Skype, MSOC and any other softphone will generally require a USB connection headset. These are available in both corded and wireless options.

What if I don’t know what telephone system I am connected to?
Call us and we will organise an appointment with you to make sure you have to correct set-up of equipment for what you want to do.

I don’t like headbands – is there anything else?
Yes, there are other options available with headsets. Depending on the headset model you can choose head bands, ear hooks or neck bands.

What should be maintained on a headset?
If headsets are used by different people, they should always be wiped clean with antiseptic bacterial wipes and the foam ear and microphone covers should be changed. If this is the same user, this should be completed every three months.

Can I connect the headset to my PC?
Yes, we have many options for USB connection headsets at various price levels to suit your needs. The only decision you really need to make is if you would prefer a corded or wireless headset.
